Intro to Freediving (AIDA2)

Get your feet wet! This introduction to freediving also offers you the opportunity for your Level 1 Freediver certification through AIDA*.

You will need:

  • A freediving wetsuit or 5/4/3 or 4/3 surf wetsuit with hood, gloves and booties.

  • Mask & snorkel (low volume preferred but not necessary for this course)

  • Weight belt and about 12lbs of weight

  • Long fins for freediving (NOT SCUBA)

  • Guardian signature if under 18.

Course outline:

  • Classroom Session and written exam (minimum 3 hours total)

  • Confined Water Session or land static session (day 1)

  • Open Water Sessions (to be completed on day 1 and 2)

  • Classroom to be held in Encinitas, all water sessions are in Avalon, CA.

To qualify for a Level 1 Freediver certification you will demonstrate*:

  • STA 2:00min

  • DYN 40m

  • CWT 12-20m

  • Surface safety skills

  • A written exam score of at least 75%

*You have 1 year from the course start date to complete all requirements for the certification. If 1 year lapses, you will need to retake the course.

You will need to get your ferry ticket from any port (Dana Point is the nearest to San Diego). Ferry ticket and accommodations are not included in the course cost. Though we highly recommend using your own gear, any gear needed for the course can be rented through Catalina Divers Supply.
